Anderson is located along Interstate 5 and is approximately 10 miles south of Redding. Numerous rivers run through the area, including the Sacramento River which runs through the heart of town. Alongside this river lies a significant number of hard-working contractors, agricultural-based businesses, small LLCs, and families who are dealing with more financial complexity than can easily be addressed by using basic accounting software. Many of these individuals receive little if any accounting assistance simply due to lack of accessibility. Susan has been addressing this concern since 2007.
Susan is a licensed CPA with the California Board of Accountancy (#96754). She understands the economy of the I-5 corridor, as well as the specific challenges faced by the contractors and small business owners within this corridor. Her office is located in Redding, however, most of her Anderson clients do not need to visit an office. They can communicate via phone, email, or secure document upload. When you contact Susan, she will be the person directly answering your questions and/or providing guidance on your accounting situation. Each and every one of her engagements is based on a flat-fee price, quoted prior to the beginning of each project. Therefore, you will always know exactly how much you will pay before she even begins reviewing your documents.

In 1872, railroad service arrived in the region, contributing to its expansion and advancement. Elias Anderson, who possessed the biggest land grant in the area, inspired the name of the city of Anderson. A piece of that original land is now Anderson River Park. During California’s Mexican history, the region was formerly a part of Rancho Buena Ventura, a Mexican land grant given to Pierson B. Reading by Governor Manuel Micheltorena.
Anderson is situated at 40°27′08″N, 122°17′48″W. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the city is 7.2 square miles (19 km²), with 7.0 square miles (18 km²) of land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of water, accounting for 2.5% of its total area.

Anderson’s economy primarily consists of trade-based businesses. This includes electricians, plumbers, carpenters/framers, roofer/concrete contractors, etc. The majority of Anderson’s working business owners operate as sole proprietorships or single member LLC’s. They often earn good revenues but maintain thin profit margins. Additionally, seasonal fluctuations, slow paying customers, and varying income levels create very difficult cash flow challenges. For example, the IRS requires self-employed persons to file four estimated tax payments per year prior to filing their annual tax return. These quarterly estimated tax payments are easy to miss when there are not sufficient funds in your checking account to cover. By April 1st, the amount owed to the government, plus penalty for missing quarterly payments, will be due.
This creates pattern that Susan observes often. As a licensed CPA and not a franchise preparer, she can identify potential issues ahead of time and establish a payment plan that will cause minimal disruption. The Anderson, CA bookkeeping clients she assists state that having someone monitoring their financial information year round and not just when preparing their April tax return makes a huge difference.

This begins as a practical approach to managing finances for many businesses in Anderson. You use one debit card and one bank account so you can easily manage both your business and personal expenses. Two years later, all of the income generated from your business activities (e.g., tools, mileage, materials), as well as all of your personal expenses (e.g., groceries, truck loan payment, etc.), are found in the same bank statement. The IRS views this as a mess. And untangling this mess after-the-fact is time-consuming and expensive.
Most of Susan’s clients in Anderson handle their business needs remotely. Telephone calls, email communications, and secured document uploads enable her to manage most tasks without requiring a trip into Redding. If desired, in-person appointments are also available. Regardless of whether an appointment occurs in person or via remote means, the quality of service remains the same.
Most business owners in Anderson need much more than just an annual tax return completed. They also need financial records that are accurate, an individual who will monitor the quarterly tax payment schedule, and a CPA who is willing to answer questions as they arise.

Yes. This is a large portion of the services she offers. Business owners who are contractors/trades often have complicated tax scenarios including quarterly estimated payments, and trade-related expense deductions for such things as tools, vehicles, and materials. Additionally, many contractors/trades individuals find themselves juggling both their business and personal finances, which creates a high level of complexity in terms of keeping track of all financial activity. Susan has provided these types of services for over 25 years and will take the stress out of the process.
Yes. The first thing we'll need to do is complete "catch-up" bookkeeping. This will involve reviewing your banking statements to identify all of the transactions and separate them into two categories: business and personal. Once we have completed this task, we will establish a system to ensure that you do not continue to commingle your personal and business funds. With each month that passes, the cost of correcting your financial records increases. This includes the potential risk of being audited and having to pay penalties and interest prior to addressing the original issue. Address the problem now so it doesn’t continue to get worse.
Yes. While some of her clients prefer to meet in person in Redding, most of her clients in the Anderson area choose to utilize the remote capabilities offered by her firm. They can scan or fax documents to her via a secure document upload tool. We conduct conversations regarding their financials via phone or video conference. After which we will begin completing their tax preparation and other accounting needs. In-person consultations are also available to those who desire to meet with Susan. When you contact Susan, please let her know if you’d like to schedule an in-person meeting as part of your service.
Flat-fee pricing means that prior to initiating any work associated with your tax preparation, Susan quotes you a single, flat rate for completing your tax preparation services. This quote will depend on the nature and scope of your tax preparation requirements. It is not merely an estimate which will keep increasing as the process plays out. Hourly rates or charges are non-existent. Any invoices generated after completion of the tax preparation process will not exceed the quoted flat rate. Therefore, you will always know the total charge before work begins.
Yes. If you are receiving an IRS Notice or Franchise Tax Board (FTB) Notice pertaining to past due taxes owed, or if you are aware of past-due taxes owed that you have yet to address, Susan may represent you directly with the respective taxing authorities. This enables her to interact on your behalf with both the IRS/FTB regarding all matters related to penalties and interest assessed. Additionally, should a payment arrangement be necessary to facilitate resolution of the outstanding liabilities, she will interact with each party on your behalf. Do not simply ignore a notice issued by either agency. The longer you fail to act, the larger the potential liability becomes.
